Dogs go to Heaven

    Corn fields!  All along the highway from Zanesville, Ohio to Peoria, Illinois. What is a little dog to do? Good thing I like to sleep!  

 

What is a little dog to do?

    

    Tia Judy and Amanda listened to Little House on the Prairie. I perked up at the good parts. Laura and her family were moving from Pepin Wisconsin (the little house in the big woods) to the prairie in Kansas.  Everyone rode in the covered wagon except Jack, the brindle bull dog.  He walked along under the wagon.  I don’t think I could ever do that because I am too small. When they crossed the swollen creek, a terrible thing happened. Jack was gone. Everybody, especially me, was very sad. That was when I learned something very important. Laura asked Pa if dogs go to Heaven and Pa said "yes."

   Then, guess what?! After they found a place to settle on the prairie, Jack came back! No one could imagine how he could find them, but I know, because dogs have special sniffers and they just know how to find the people they love.

    One day, Laura and her sister Mary were playing on the prairie and they saw, well, this is how Laura describes them:

         ...little creatures...They had bright round eyes and 

         crinkling noses and wee paws. They popped out of

         holes in the ground...Their hind legs folded under 

         their haunches, their little paws folded tight to their

         chest...

Laura called them gophers. I call them prairie dogs. I know this because when I sit up like that, Amanda always tells me I look like a prairie dog. 

 

Do I look like a prairie dog?

   

      There were many scary things on the prairie. The whole family was terrified of my dog cousins, the wolves. One night a pack of wolves surrounded the family's house. Although they were scared, they were amazed at how awesome my cousins were, especially when they lifted their heads to the moon and howled. Well, I'm going to sign off now so I can practice howling at the moon!

 

I don't know if I want to howl.
